Synopsis
Cremaster 1 is a film that explores the formation of identity and sexual differentiation through the lens of Boise, Idaho. The plot unfolds at Bronco Stadium, where Matthew Barney played football during his teenage years. In this play, the director presents an exclusively feminine cast, which means that Barney does not play any characters for the first time in the series. The film focuses on the ascension of the cremaster and primary sexual indifference. The symbolism of hot air balloons represents the beginning of a new path and the possibility that the genus of the fetus will develop. Throughout the history, the configuration of an androgynous gonadal structure is shown, highlighting the fluidity of sexual identity. The film concludes with the protagonist sitting on a throne, patiently and delicately waiting for the beginning of the transformation process.
