In a coastal environment in northern Spain, where the industrial boom has left many unemployed, Santa (Bardem) and his friends struggle to find a way out of their precarious situations. Throughout life, they walk on a loose rope, balancing temporary jobs and trusting in mutual support among themselves. At the height of the constant challenges, they are sustained by the small joys and routines that allow them to survive in this world without mercy.
