Synopsis
In the 18th century, the life of the young Queen Carolina Matilde becomes hell when she marries King Christian VII of Denmark, a mentally ill and bizarre monarch. The sovereign makes imprudent decisions, such as appointing his dog an honorary member of the Council of State or ordering empty cars to travel through Copenhagen at night looking for drunks. Carolina, without hope, finds comfort in the king's personal physician, a progressive intellectual facing a dilemma: to maintain his loyalty to the mad monarch, to confess his love for the queen, or to seize the opportunity to transform Denmark from its foundations, making it an enlightened and modern nation.
